Howl animation zzz

This section is just absurdly dead, so here's an animation of Ginsberg's famous epic poem "Howl". It's from the 2010 borderline biopic film Howl, starring James Franco, which goes into the process behind Howl and the subsequent obscenity trial that served as a landmark in freedom of publishing comparable to that achieved by Ulysses earlier on in 1933. Ginsberg was a famous Beats poet (the Beats would go on to inspire the a myriad of counter culture movements, most prominent of which is the Hippie movement). They were largely a reaction to the disillusionment of the postmodern world, etc. etc. Even if you aren't into poetry in general, Erik Drooker, a long time Ginsberg collaborator, animated the poem wonderfully. It skips around a bit, utilizing the best parts of the poem (at least those that were most aesthetically impressive), but it gives a general sense of the chaos that the poem espouses.

That is cool. I'da watched it if it were through the whole poem with any "less exciting" parts. I've got 'Howl' on my netflix waiting for me to find the time too.

Mm, as for another Ginsberg rendition, Rage Against The Machine does a neat musical variety of 'Hadda Be Playin' on the Jukebox'. Unfortunately there aren't any with bomb animation (just the same old youtube slideshow style user videos) or even with lyrics.. But you know what it's called and who it's by if you wanna look those up ;P

Haha, I used to listen to that with friends back in high school! We'd sit around in a That 70's Show-esque basement and sit on the couch with this playing :P. RATM does it good, but I prefer Ginsberg's original - his voice has a prophetic ring to it.

I actually finally watched that 'Howl' flick with James Franco. Although I am no fan of the actors it was an alright portrayal. Animations were again very cool. Though honestly my favorite part was at the end where Ginsberg himself was performing near the credits. I swear I could listen to him "sing" for hours.

Well, I pretty much get hard at the sight of James Franco, not to mention Mary Louise-Parker...so that enhanced the film for me. But yeah, Franco has the loud and elaborate enunciation down, but it really is no match for the genuine article; compared side to side, the imitation rings hollow...but I still thought Franco did a pretty good job.
