A stray comment caught my attention and it made me very unhappy to see. Someone, who will not be named, stated that our community is terrible. Not S4 Source, but S5. I am curious to see what people think. Is our community horrible and what makes it so?

I may be very busy nowadays, but S4 Source is my home and personal project. I do not want to see it fail; hence why your continued to support and feedback is necessary. Please let me know if you also feel our community is horrible, why or why not, and what can be improved.

It has it's cliques as any social group does. The thing that makes this community.. not so friendly, is how we/they seem to shun noobs away after they get their +1 post for welcoming.

It seems like the community works like this, "If you arent pro, or you disagree with my playstyle. gtfo faggot."
That's what I see.

From what i've seen it's not horrible but it's not good either, and is probably leaning on the bad side. Seems to be filled with a lot of people trolling each other for no apparent reason other than to be able to troll, the on word spam posts, quote'ing other peoples "lol" as a reply, etc. Tbh it doesnt seem like a problem which can really be improved on since it's based on most of the user's "personalities" and how they are on the forums. Just my opinion though.

S4 Source, isn't horrible.

If it was, I wouldn't have stuck around.
And even if I were to quit S4, I'm still here to annoy people, hang around.

The one who said our community is "horrible" is a complete fail (DuH we know who it is Anyway)
I see sum are friendly and sum got ego up there asses and sum are neutral at most times (example : me, misaka, kiho)
Besides, its pretty obvious who is a faggot troll just being a dumbshit
Not everyone gets along but not everyone wants a fight at least
Everyone has their own groups of players playing with and mostly "peaceful" as it "appears" in here on S5
Meh, S5 is my 2nd home i guess so yeah (lol wtf did i just say)
Just my 2 cents

I agree with Lawlworthy...even now from time to time when I post, I feel like I have to tread carefully as to not to step on anyone's tail. There are some very..VERY nice people in here but some are more like buddy-buddy kind that they know inside jokes of each other and act that way in this forum. It sometimes make me feel alienated and I think others might feel the same way. Even then, I enjoy this community.

But one thing for sure, I would rather stick around here than Alaplaya S4 forum...

When i started making videos this community always trashed em and didnt just trash them because they were bad eventually they just did it out hate because they didnt even watch it. It was like "Another video(doesent even watch).... bad". Automatically :V

, but eventually i must admit i did get better for the "Flaming critisizm"

This is a perfect example of how the community cant act towards 1 person in a BASH :V

sorry buy the replies on this are a prime example of how this comminity acts sometimes :V

Pretty much sums it up. And the trolls, don't mind them, but sometimes they go to far.

I have to do this from time to time, but I do understand that trolling can get out of hand. Even my moderators do it unknowingly (They are reprimanded for such actions) and that can be very unfriendly.

To promote confidentiality, if you know someone who you feel should have a "talking to" about their behavior, I would appreciate it if you told me through PMs, even if it's a mod. I don't want our community to be considered bad in the least because it's not. It's supposed to be newbie/pro etc. friendly. Any signs of deviating behavior is not good.

Also, ideas on how to improve the community as a whole are welcomed in this thread.

The underlined and highlighted part. If you're seeing this, that's not behavior we allow.

Quickly Analysing the situation... Done.

In a sense these forums feel kind of 4chanish with a little facebook and drama added to it in a way. It's the individuals that are the source of the problem if there is one not the forum admin himself.

A lot of self-importance, ego-tripping, selfishness, etc. that goes around that is really unneeded. There are less contributions than before apart from certain users who do so regularly of course, and there's also a few members who are really negative and dismissive on a hefty load of the topics.

Then there is also the quoting a post for no reason at all but to quote the post. While being done in the purpose to demonstrate approval, it is highly abused and unnecessary at times when it hardly contributes to anything.

Of course, any drama that is being dealt with between members outside of the forum, will seep in the forums as well. Sometimes this leads to emotionally driven posts or acts within the game, forum, and messaging systems.

Theres also a huge hatred of sword only players.

It usually boils down to, as mentioned before, our attitude towards each other.
I understand that S4 can be frustrating at times, and maybe that just carries on to S5.

Don't get me wrong there are positives... and that's why I still visit.
Alaplaya forums are way worse.

So should we make a rule to force people who quote post to actually include their own text?

It's quite hard to determine. The main goal is that you want to encourage people to quote only important posts as a reference to their own contribution or as an answer to a question.

The options at this point would be to either: put up a rule for quotes or to make quotes ignore character limits.

Or set up a stricter spamming rule.
For example a rule like the one below.

Quote

From DFOSource.com
3. No spamming.
Spamming is posting messages with no real content in them, or off-topic posts. These posts are often one-liners, and will be deleted. Please ask yourself if your message contributes to the thread or is constructive before you post it. Spamming images or image macros falls under this category, and so do PMs.

I do think that merged with what we have atm it would make it set in stone to those who read it.

A spam section would help as well i guess.

Put it this way.
When people lose interest in the game associated with the forum.
And then still continue to post regularly on that forum.

You're doing something right.

uhh.. we got a spam section.. iirc down there...
And no, not a quoting rule, that barely solves anything
It's more on the post that is ego/bashed/flame/insulting filled tbh
and that there depends on the poster, something that even rules won't be able to completely stop

EDIT: ^Agree on GreyFalc post as well
