I plan to keep up with the site a lot more and to do that, I plan to create an update log specifically for S4source. Any new material that we place up on the site will be posted here in order to keep everyone updated on the changes. I know you all feel kinda like  >_< "Why does he talk so much?", well it's necessary so stifle yourselves  *thumbsup* Just kidding, just bare with me.

So here's the basic rules:

1. No spamming. There will be a thread to discuss S4 news

2. No posting irrelevant business or news not pretaining to the topic.

3. Please take the news here seriously. Do not dispute it on other threads.

Log #1

Content: Update log launched, future updates, and future projects

Today marks the 3rd day of EU S4 launching, and nows the time to get busy. This first post is kind of an oxymoron, talking about the launching of the Update Log. It's going to be the main spot for news about the site and what's to come. I don't want to go into too much as I'm sure everyone knows what my update log is like.

1 Guide per week
Now, as S4 League becomes popular, we need to keep up with sharing our knowledge. So from now on, S4source will produce one guide per week. It will be available in the Approved Guides section under S4 skills. When someone from our community gets around to it, we'll have a main page to display all of our guides, fan art, walkthroughs, etc for everyone to see in a nice format.

Promoting Sulfonic Harmony

As S4source becomes popular, we want to try and support our community that is expanding into the competitive nature. Sulfonic Harmony, headed by our very own Ethsperion, will have their logo placed in our little news spot marked "Featured Content" where the Wiki link is. Once Kurai gets to that, people will be able to visit SH's wonderful website whenever they visit S4source. This is our way of supporting our community and wishing them luck in their ambitions. We hope you'll remember us, as we'll always remember you; that's why we're family. So, expect to see a link leading to their wonderful website soon. Just a reminder, Sulfonic Harmony is an invite only club so it's not recommended to pester them about it.

Continued support of EU S4

S4source will continue to support EU S4. I know many of our members are a little put off by the release, but we all know the magic of this game and how it has touched our lives and brought us together as a community, I feel that it's important to bring this sort of joy to everyone. So, here's what I propose we do. This will be a future project meaning something we'll continuously be doing. Continue to write bug reports, finding misspellings. A list of things that are currently not working properly.

1. The missions. There requirements do not show. A new guide is needed for people until we can talk to Alaplaya about accurate translations.

2. Server Lag

3. Money and temporary weapon issue. Lack of money and temporary weapons are, as we predicted, not the way to go with the beginning of the game. People are calling for PEN to be raised per game and we know that will ruin the game. Talking with GMs and important people about it is advised.

Send emails to Berk Varol or talk to some GMs to see who we can contact. We can only try.

Organizing games/teaching sessions/tournaments
One way to promote the game and get people involved is to try and raise the competitive bar. If someone is willing to help coordinate and host a tournament, we can talk to Alaplaya about rewards and stuff to promote the event. If not, we can just do it for pinks and honor, that sort of thing.  >:D We're going to need a bit of staff to run it so if you're interested in it, send a PM to me about.

S4 League Wiki
Our wiki is vastly in need of design modification. If anyone would like to be part of the staff to take care of our Wiki page, that'd totally help our cause. I can only edit so much with my schedule as well as all my duties with S4. I'm totally so  *sleepy* from school and work, but I still get by. Contact Kurai, Hatsune-Miku, or myself for more information on how you can be a big help in keeping it up to date.

S4source Main Page
If you have any webdesigning abilities or have some free time, you'd be very appreciated in making a weblayout for us. Once we have a mainpage and some leg room to make our site more of a site rather than a forum, we'll increase our popularity as well as our accessibility. It's much easier to navigate a website than a forum. I know that Ethsperion has said that he could do it, but with money issues and more obligations, I'm not sure if he will have time to do it for us. If anyone has any ideas, please let the staff know.

Function Wishlist Event
This will be one of our first event and I plan to start it up soon! Basically, we're going to have a contest to see who can trick out the forums. Think of any feature you'd like for the forums in general then post your idea. Even if you're unsure how it'll work, there's no harm in trying. Post up your most bomb ideas and I'll judge them to see who has made the most creative and extraordinary feature for our forums and website in general. The only rules are that it needs to be atleast physically possible to do (nothing like making a cel-shaded animation >.> 'Cause there's no money for that) and has to pretain to S4 League.

Donations for Translations and Site Projects
Just to be real for a moment, Kurai found us hosting, I paid for the name, pay for Paul to translate for us, and most other costs. It stretches my piggy bank a little thin. If you can contribute anything to helping pay for the many projects we'd like to do for S4source, that'd be appreciated. It's not that I'm begging, 'cause as I said, been doing it myself, but it'd be nice to get some help from the community. All money donated will be put into a paypal account specifically for S4source. I will constantly keep track of our donation amount to make sure everyone knows where we're at.

Our first order of business is making sure Paul stays with our community. :-D We want him to keep translating Korean games for us as much as possible and get paid for it too. Another order of business is buying Ethsperion a tablet so he can design us a mainpage. No idea how much that would cost, but chipping in would vastly help. All of this is for our community to grow and I hope we can all get towards that together.


Anyway, that's the first update. This is what we're doing and where we're going. As things crop up, I'll start to post more, not so much in this depth. See you all later. You know the score; get out there and show me your S4!

Just like to remind you that on the top of the page on the right hand corner, there is a little box with a picture on it. That is our current news page. You'll see that there is a 1 and a 2. If you've played the Korean version, you know that means "Oh, crap! There's something there!". If you didn't, it's okay, more surprise for you. Be sure to keep an eye on that area. We'll be adding stuff now and again.

Thanks to our new member, Teck, for addressing a needed concern. This forum had no place to place your S4 art and screenshots. You just had the Art topic to go off on. So, the staff decided to open up eSper Station. It's a tricked out train station where the heart of art resides. You can post screenshots, fanart, write poems, fanfics, novels, anything here. I'll move all topics pretaining to it shortly, but that's how it'll work. Again, thanks to Teck for the good suggestion. Keep giving me more help, guys!

Content: Donations for upgrades to site interface and more

Hello everyone, Reiki here.

Kurai and I have been thinking and we believe it's time to get serious about the interface of this site. We've decided to buy a standard liscense for invision power boards. With the liscense, we're able to download more advanced software for the board. This means the board will be cleaner, sleeker, and better equipped for the future and for all of you as well. It also allows Kurai to do more with the boards which is good because new features means better things for all I'll post the link to it for your convenience. :-D

Now, as it suggests, it's 150 dollars and tax so it's going to cost a pretty penny. Due to the California State Legislation not signing the budget for 2008-2009, I cannot get money for my school or my job until it is signed so I'm pinched for cash right now. Kurai is also  in school and Hatsune is just trying to keep up with A-T as well as S5 so we can't expect her to pay for the liscense. So we're turning to the community for help. We'd like to push S5 to the next level, and no we don't mean adding yet another S into the name! We'll be adding a donation button for future projects and we ask that you please consider donating whatever you can. We're not begging, but we would like your help in taking care of the site and making it grow. We are placing a marker for 160 dollars to cover the tax. If anything else is left, I'll pay it. Rest assured, your money will go to what I say. We appreciate your help beyond compare.

We've also decided to keep the donation button around as well as keeping a plausible goal for every month so we can keep adding to the community, helping projects we're working towards (main page plox), and also helping our neighbor sites like A-T and SulfonicHarmony's main page if the time arises.

Subject: S5 closed this coming weekend

Hello everyone, Reiki here. It's a beautiful day in San Francisco, just got back from school. Right now, though, I need to inform you all of a few things. One specifically is that on the weekend of 9/5~9/7, S5 will be closed. Due to maintenance, the site will not be available. We hope that you all enjoy your weekends and hopefully join us in EU S4 this weekend. Also, donations towards S4source would really be appreciated. We've yet to receive donations and our september goal is 150 dollars. Help us reach that goal so we can buy an IpB license and spruce up the forums!

On a lighter note, keep this in mind. S4source will be hosting a contest on the Alaplaya forums as well as here. It will be called "Make it your S4~!". I can't tell you much about it. It'd ruin the surprise, but keep that in mind in the coming week! Have a wonderful week and weekend, I'll see you hopefully in the game!

Subject: Calender in use and new club subforums

Hello everyone, Reiki here

I'm just here to give you the shtick on what's happening with the site. We're starting to get more organized and planning things a few weeks to a month in advanced. How can you keep track of all of it, you wonder? Well, with the forum's brand-spanking new calender function, it'll warn you five days ahead of time when new events are coming up. It also tells you people's birthdays so if you're crushing really hard on somebody, you can surprise them on their birthday >.>

Yea, not so much important. However, we've got lots planned for October and it gives you more outlets to figure out the news rather than me just always redirecting you to the update log. However, all S4 League events from both Korea and EU will still be documented in the update log.

Keep in mind that S4source does host S4 clubs with private/public space for your threads and accomplishments. If you need space or just want to start off here, we got you covered. Feel free to crash here free of charge as the site continues to grow. Soon, we'll have more features possibly that will allow your clubs to have their own webpage on S4source.

Subject: Hiring moderators, S5 updates, and Troll issues

Hello everyone, Reiki here

Just wanted to get everyone informed on what's going to be happening from now on with S4 Source. As we get more popular in the internet world, there are going to be some serious haters that just despise the site and the people that run it. Lately, you've been seeing a Porn Troll roam around the site posting unsavory pictures that might have disturbed you or tickled your funny bone. I'm sorry. :-P

So here are the things we're going to be doing to deter more issues about S5.

1. We're going to hire more moderators and expand their powers - It may be a bold move, but the staff that we have is very trustworthy and pushes themselves to help. The problem is they're only human and can't stay up 18 out of the 24 hours in the day near a computer like I do. ;-; So we need more people. We'll assign more realms to current moderators as well so they can be in charge of more areas.

However, you have to ask to be hired and be interviewed. Also, you have to ask for more areas. We will not provide more areas to cover if you're not wanting or can handle it.

2. Upgrade the software for the IpB - You guys paid for it and its been a very good asset. IpB has some prevention software that keeps bots from making accounts so we're testing to see if it works. So far, no more troll.

3. Removing stream videos and pictures in posting for specific forums - This is a bit extreme, but I'm going to talk to the staff about it. With this, it would destroy atleast 75% of the effectiveness of the douchebag's ability to be a douchebag here. Even if a complicated bot got in here, if it couldn't post pictures where it wanted, it'd be ineffective.

Also, as an admin, I can delete all the posts by one person at any given time so they could spam the boards, but just one of us on would allow us to delete all their posts.

In other news, S5 is working with Alaplaya to help with the lag at S4 league. If you saw the pingplotter thread in the Neden v.5 | The Headquarters, that's one step to helping out. We're also trying to talk with the Project Organizer of S4 League to see if we, as a community, can't see if our voice can be heard. Keep posting suggestions and challenge how things are right now as if you're disatisfied with how Alaplaya is running S4, say something. Be articulate, but don't forget to post some plausible solutions. It's a negotiation, no armed robbery. :-P We'll have more news for you as we make headway with the company and the representatives, but we're hoping quite a lot that our responses will be taken seriously.

More news about S5 comes in the form of an event. Starting on the 17th, S4 Source's Global Moderator's, Slash4218, Full Release Tournament will have ended its registration date. Even if S4 League has some issues, it's always good to try out an event or two so get in there. There's still more time too to join the "Make it your S4~!" contest. We're really looking for more participants in our events. October 24th will be the start of a new event called "Neden v.5
" and will be open for registration into early November. More information is provided in the DJ Stadium so go check out the rules and different games you can try.

The final big update is coming in the form of the Training Sessions. Starting next week, we'll be appointing a weekly teacher to run training sessions and I'll cover weekends until I find someone to do it for me. If you feel you'd like to do it, you're free to PM me and ask as we're always looking for eager people to teach or just organize games daily for S4 Source people. As our community has grown, we might even need two full rooms. :-P

In preparation for the upcoming "year-long" tournament that's going on here at S5, I've done some spring cleaning. That is to say, I added stuff and moved some stuff. Not really "cleaning" but it looks more organized. Look forward to the tournaments to come, we'll be seeing them hit the DJ Stadium in a matter of weeks!

Subject: New forums and tournament prizes!

Hello everyone, Reiki here!

Just keeping you up to date on what's going on in S4 League's number 1 source for news! We've got a few changes here I'd like to talk about so keep your eyes peeled!

Vent names changed
I feel that we want to keep a decent vent so the private room names have been changed a little. I understand that you all have free expression, but I also want you to understand that people see a lot about us as a group when they go into #S4 or go into our vent. I want them to see more. If your room has been changed, just take it in stride or pick a better name. It's not personal, I just would like clean services.

Also, if you are applying for a place in vent, I'd like you to pick names that do not include swear words, explicit sexual words or references (pedo is fine, fornicate is fine, sex is not), and no slanderous material ( "X" is gay room!).

New position open: Judges
After the trial tournament is over, we're going to roll out the red carpet and lay down the law! Judges will be screened and appointed to help with the year-long tournament (still working on that name!). These individuals will be like umpires for baseball. They have to be present and are the law of the match. Without them, the match is invalid.

To become a judge, you must contact Contex and get his approval after careful screening and testing. We appreciate any help we can get, but you must be impartial as well as attentive. Your best is the minimum requirement.


Judges' Forum: The eSper Council Hall

A new forum is opened up for this new group. Judges will discuss matches in these private quarters. They are required to present themselves, contact information, and their matched games professionally. The Tournament Director, Contex, will oversee the activities going on there so it's not all fun and games. We do appreciate our judges and want them to have all the tools they need to do the task we've presented for them.

Prizes for the tournament? Oh wow!

Well, we're still working it all out, but we're doing our best to make sure there's an incentive to all the work you clubs are doing for our tournament! For the top 3 teams, we will be providing AP prizes for the quarter finals. For the top finishers of our tournament at the end of the year, we will be paying forS4 League: Vivace, the hot CD that has all the tracks from S4 League, for the team with the most points.

We would have gotten the latest edition, the new Limited Edition S4 League CD, but after talking to Pentavision, they have stated they would not be supporting the tournament formally and the CD will not go on sale. Sorry guys!

Subject: Livestream and Tournament news

Well, its been a while! I haven't been doing many updates on whats going on with the site, but I'll write more about it from you.

Livestream Channel: Channels5

Moving forward with the tournament has been hard work, but we've improved a lot in our organization skills. It has gotten to the point where we can actually record all of the matches that people have. We now have livestream capabilities. We're working hard to make sure that every judge for the S4 Source Tournament can livestream their matches. We're hoping to get as many people using that channel as possible so make sure to spread the word around about Channel S5!

You can also view the livechannel right from S5! Check out the front page and click livestream. No need to even leave the site.

Winner of Round 1: Cookie Lovers

The round finals were amazing. Every minute was an action-packed fight. First, Cookie Lovers squeaked by on Station 2 by points. Club Crayola pushed and ran them ragged with amazing jumps, group plays, and lots of pressure. In a lot of high level matches, we've seen that players trade a lot longer in the middle than usual. It's quite a spectacle. This was the same with Tunnel as well. Both sides were evenly matched, neither gaining any ground. However, the tight knit plays and tactical point mining Club Crayola did was key. They managed to dominate in Tunnel with an over 50 point lead.

The last match was Neden v.3. At this point, it was a matter of middle control. Right off the bat, Cookie Lovers set down two sentry guns in the middle to cover the windows. There was great speed in setting up the middle which pushed Club Crayola to the middle. There were hard saves by Club Crayola, but throughout the match, they lost a lot of ground due to the lack of middle control. It was a sad, but fufilling loss, but it was an amazing match over all. Cookie Lovers wins, 2 matches to 1. Congratulations to first place winners as well as everyone who participated in Round 1. That was amazing, excellent work.

Future Projects

Although the tournament has brought us a new relevance in S4 League, we're trying to expand on that. We are still working on our new layout, hopefully to be completed by Christmas. When that happens, we'll be adding new features to the site. We can't talk about that right now, but we're gradually making ground towards more entertainment, community based projects, and reporting on Korean developments. Another thing we're trying to do is expand our language base. We want to be able to spread our news, atleast, to many different countries. We're also considering doing announcers or commentators in different languages for the tournament.
