Hard Drive not being recognized

Hello,
I'm newbie to this site and I have a my book western digital 1 terabyte external hard drive i have had it 4 almost a yr now when i connect it to my computer it doesn't show n my computer area but it show n the device manager n the disk drives and n the usb ports area

So could some1 help me i dont want to lose any data ?

Try it on some other PC.

If you are using an XP machine, Under 'Computer Management', 'Storage', 'Disk Management', you may be able to see your USB drive there. You can right click on the drives to 'Explore' them and hopefully transfer the data to a safer area. After you successfully saved the data, as Eliyn said, format that USB drive~!!!

It would be nice if you could give us the specs on your computer too. Make sure you've updated drivers, as if you're running a very early copy of Vista, you'll need the service pack for the usb inputs to even be seen (which happened for my old computer, I'm back to XP now). If all else fails (that means googling your problem too), do as Hell suggests and attempt to use a different computer, just to make sure your data is safe.
