July 2009 Tournament Results and Suggestion Box

Well after a heated tournament, Fraternity has won it all so congrats to you guys. Now because this tournament was a test tournament I've collected my own information and want to hear from you guys. After you guys experienced S5's first tournament what do you think? What would you have changed? What new rules would you implement to improve this system. I am open to all suggestions and will review them all prior to next months tournament.

more judges, more on hands judging, more sticking to the rules/deadlines, restricting sentries to a certain extent; its really annoying playing against 3 or 4 sentries @ st1 in a 4v4 lol and - depending on how netcode fixes things - CS. If netcode doesn't fix things sufficiently, its just dumb to continue to ignore the issue that CS has been posing ever since EUS4 started. A lot of people might disagree with doing so, but when you're playing against 4 people in a 4v4 using CS and they all hit you from a ridiculous distance - which isn't anyone's personal fault, that's just one of the bad things that EU comes with - its really dumb. Its not even usually the "better CSers" (Fraternity), but its nonetheless annoying. Especially since more and more European clans are signing up @ S5, which, once again, is not anyone's fault, but it still can't just be ignored. 350ms CS is hard to beat. If someone honestly cannot win without CSes, then that's their fault ; everyone shouldn't be penalized for it. that's just my opinion though.

most important is limiting sentries though, the rest i dont really care about. all melee weapons except bat should be banned obviously.

Maybe a limit to sentries/grenades allowed per team?

also i suggest make a time table for the matches, not search for the other leaders and make all that boring job, just say this day at this time and that's all

Don't submit to those BRs

The tournament was decent. Deadlines were ridicilous. Keep up the good stuff and perhaps wait for the clan system

But yeah just do it like ESL, limit sentry to 1 per team, 1 shield per team, 1 senty nell per team and 1 wall per team. I dont think CS should be any problem, a lagging PS is just as big of a bitch as a lagging CS, ever been stunned from across the map? That's just what you said, people from all across the world are registering at S4, meaning you get to play with people from far far away, you can choose to get over it or to split the tournaments into sections, EU and America (I guess), which would make it super boring.

More than 1 grenade launcher per team should be also included in the ESL rules should the grenade launcher come to EU

I requested limiting sentries before playing you, ;P.

You can't really equate plasma/storm bat lag with CS unless the former is really, REALLY lagging, unless its say, a 3v3 at station2 or OS, in which a lag PS might be extremely annoying, but, unless its REALLY laggy, not nearly as annoying as a CS. And there is a difference between being a ridiculous lagger and doing that, than being able to light slash stunlock someone from a normally asinine distance. You don't need serious internet problems to have the latter, but if you're getting plasma stunned from halfway across the map, then that means there is a serious connection problem between you two. The difference is that most "good" teams aren't going to be lagging ridiculously, but just on the pure distance their CS can be a problem, especially in situations/maps where its difficult to fight off a CS - st1, going up ramp on st2, etc. The lag exasperates the impact it has, and, in the end, if a team is hypothetically running 5 CSes and they have even a LITTLE bit of lag to the other team (via no fault of their own, as I said before), it can cause serious issues. This issue has been around forever, and its been a constant source of annoyance and dismay when playing a team that's made up of players that live on the other side of the world. It usually culminates in a conflict, people calling people laggers, and so forth. As I said before, I really don't mind either way, but the issue is easily solvable by restricting the usage of CS - not ENTIRELY, but, maybe reducing it to 3 in a 5v5, 2 in a 4v4, and so forth. I'm pretty sure most teams will still do fine - I'm not one to believe that a team that largely uses CS only wins because of CS - and it'll help quell a lot of issues. Since, as you said, there are teams from all over the world playing, unlike KS4, certain things have to be taken into consideration to create a more friendly, fair playing environment to all of the players. Because thus far, nothing has worked. Its been around since the first americunt-eurofag clanwars (hurr SwS), and it'll continue to go on.

But all of that doesn't matter if netcode successfully ameliorates the lag issues, then there isn't any point in limiting it.
