First off I would like to start off by saying hi to all of the people that's going to read this. Now I need to ask a question, recently I've been playing against some lagers like IL's or EG's and for some reason they lag hit the crap out of me but I do not lag hit them back they've even told me that I don't lag him that bad, Isn't s4 pvp? What could be the problem of why the lag is just going one way.

As far as I know... o.o If both sides get affected, it's mostly about the internet connection. For example.... like distance between countries. But if only 1 side gets affected more, it's about their computer I think. o.o

I don't know if it's right or not, if I had a mistake, I hope someone will fix them. ^^

You meant p2p, as in peer to peer. Anyways...

With this type of connection, it would depend on both players' upload speed and download speed. You can have THE BEST interwebz in the world and still see someone else lag, because they have a really crappy internet connection. Those people who say "lag works both ways" is right, but they don't know how they're right.

To put simply, if your upload speed can fill their average download speed, then you will not lag to them. The same is with the other way around. Now, if their upload speed is completely lacking to your download speed, then you will see their lag since they're not even sending their end of the data quickly enough.

Mind you, that was not including the distance factor, or in other words, how many milliseconds it takes for you to send and receive data from a specific point. That affects how often you transfer data.

In more simple terms...

Ping = how often you send/receive data
Speed = how much data you send /receive

What else can affect the lag? The most common one is computer performance. I've had one person say (AGAIN) that gauss makes lag. It doesn't make me lag at all. I would assume those same people that proclaim "gauss lag" would lag all the same from playing in high quality with v-sync, using Breaker's charge attack, or just being in Connest or Square.

I, for one, do everything I can to have a good computer and internet. Others do not, some can't, and a few would do everything to make themselves lag to "cheat".

Gauss Lag isnt fps lag its ping lag. I did my research on it and when I use gauss it sends huge packets that uses a random amount of bytes for instance if 24 is using 24kb it would spike to 700+ kb use cuz of gauss. Not sure if its upload or download speed though but if its upload my net doesnt have the best upload.

Those packets come from all the tiny particles that the Gauss rifle graphically emits. The same concept is with the Breaker and its intensive blooming effect, the stage size and amount of players in Square, and all the trees and leaves and wood and rocks and grass and bushes and fog in Connest.

Not possible to spike from 24kbs normal use to 700kbs ok thats abnormal no way packets should be that big.

I managed to get several people to use the Breaker while looking at their fps counter. Those who were on high quality dropped to about 20 frames when using the charge attack. Of course, I figured that their CPU was lacking. That thing does use a very special glowing detail which is made from a large amount the particles to give it that high dynamic bloom effect. Not sure if it sends a strangely large packet size, like the Gauss apparently does.

Since the above posts somewhat covered latency, ul/dl etc I'll answer your question in a different way.

This isn't for all cases of lag but...
Gen, you probably play with people who consistently have a low 10-100ms lag with you so when you fight someone who deviates from that pattern you notice their lag as exceptional.

You said you asked them if you were lagging for them. That however is subjective because some of these players probably play primarily with people who live far away, so they experience a constant 250+ms of lag. Meaning the two of you might be experiencing the same amount of latency but he, as an individual doesn't register it as anything out of the ordinary.

Not for all cases but when I'm uploading something without a cap or playing tethered to my phone I actually find it playable when everyone in the room is at 200+ms, of course it sucks for everyone else so I don't do it often but even if the hard latency data is the same what we perceive as individuals is relative.

There's an easy fix for this though, fund fiber optic cables that stretch around the world, I'll be rooting for you :D

Probably because they always lag to everyone so they don't notice a difference.

Blame asymmetrical internet connections.

Oh sure, that's why the EG players still call people laggers. LOL
