Here we go with the next Weekly Metagame Exercise, this time : The Assault Rifle.

I've seen people enjoying the gun a lot, but it's not very widely used in public games nor on S5 or most of the clanwars I've been seeing.

Some people tell me, this gun is straight OP, others say it's bad, well , try it out now and share your thoughts : Would this weapon be a possible choice for the competitive scene, or would you want to see it buffed, nerfed or deleted?
Leave your responses below and I hope everyone will take their time to post their thoughts or give some feedback!

As Reiki would say, get out there and show us your S4!

If people keep saying this often enough, we will eventually have to admit to ourselves that people other than Reiki say this.

Dayum you posted this right on time!

Anyways gonna add it to my set and I'll see... I personally think it's a powerful weapon and can hold it's own especially on maps where the range is too close for semi but far away enough from smg's max efficiency.

my opinion might change from using it for a whole week.

i've probably used it more than pretty much anyone i loved it since the day it came out

the fact that you cannot crit by headshots saves the gun from being OP because if it did crit like smg/ smash it would probably be way too strong

it works well in full ap rooms or pen only

the only thing bad about it is hte limited ammo makes it less useful in DM and modes were surviving a long time is required

so if it did have a buff it should just be infinite ammo like smash and smgs other than that couldnt get much more balanced than it is

I happened to play with it yesterday, It's an awesomely balanced gun that needs skill, not OP neither UP, its really cool.

As of now I think the same, have only been using it for about a week now, but it seems pretty accurate, the limited ammo isn't really that much of a problem in td since you die very often, but I also think there is no reason to limit the ammo in the first place.

Oh and, styx and ezreal please stay ontopic.

Essentially my thoughts, the only change I would make to it is giving it unlimited reloads
The limited reloads really hampers it because when I use the gun it is my main killing weapon (as it replaces my SMGs) and once it's gone my killing ability goes wayy wayyyy down (and it is already low to begin with)

Great weapon other than the limited ammo
Pretty simple to aim with imo and has pretty decent range

I really enjoy using it when I'm not playing seriously and would definitely consider using it seriously if it didn't have limited ammo

It a simple gun except with limited ammo but It feel has it does more damage because you don't really see the shot hiting you. I think its a balanced weapon

Here's jut a couple thoughts after playing a couple matches in Neden 1 and usually I run smg/semi/rev and I tried replacing either the semi or rev with the assault rifle. It's awkward.. 'cause it seems to fill the same role as submachine guns but you can't really rely on it to do that because that's the go-to slot and if it runs out of ammo, well, you don't have that any more. Also when you need to just drop some crates or just waste bullets in a general direction - like at someone behind a corner, it is totally is terrible. I feel like the ammo limits it a fair bit. On the other hand, my k/d is bad enough that I actually only ran out of ammo once.

i find rev supplements it well because its prime is midrange, i try to keep enemies a safe distance with rev and if they are mid to long range, assault

i think it needs something to compensate for close range fights so maybe you should try it with cs or rev (or smgs, but it feels too redundant using both for me)

I just tried it with smg+dagger on Station 2 and it wasn't too bad. Seems like Station 2 fights usually happen at a mid'ish range enough that I found myself digging the redundancy.

The closest weapon I could compare the Assault Rifle to is Smash Rifle.

Assault Rifle(AR) is far stronger than Smash Rifle(SR) with a higher damage per shot and a much faster reload speed than SR. AR does 16 damage per hit on PEN defense stats which means it needs 10 normal hits to kill someone using +30HP. The AR however has random criticals which puts it in a disadvantage over Smash Rifle, but the normal hits are strong enough that you dont need to rely on criticals to kill. AR with semi-like precision is far more reliable and accurate to hit with than SR, considering SR has random spread in a "T" shape while AR's spread is predetermined. However, the longer you shoot with AR the lower the accuracy gets so you might have to pause shooting for half a second if you want to be 100% accurate. AR reloads much faster than SR which means you can reload it during an exchange of fire without leaving yourself too exposed unlike SR. AR however will always be limited by ammo which makes some setups unavailable, mostly one gun setups [ (Smash Rifle, Sentry Gun, CS), (Smash Rifle, PS, Handgun) and most setups that rely on Smash as their only shooting weapon]. That makes AR ideal for an auxilary spot gun as its damage can compliment most double gun setups [ (SMGs, PS, AR), (Smash, HG, AR), (Semi, CS, AR) etc].

So in the end, I think that Assault Rifle will be seen alot in the competitive scene and it can compete with SMGs, Semi, SR to finally change the guns triad.

really? i don't see it being more comparable than smgs. both smgs and ar have quick reloads, relatively small clips (compared to smash) smash relies on multiple crits in a row to kill while smg and assault only need a few crits. that and they both have no melee function, and their spread is similar (cept assault rifle maintains accuracy at a longer distance). though i agree its a good weapon even competitively, i dont see how SR is the closest

imo its like a stronger, less range/crit semi or a weaker more ranger/less crit smg

What makes it comparable to smash is the fact that it doesn't require you to lead.

But in the end the weapon has similarities to all the guns, but in itself is completely different.

What I do agree with Trace about though is the fact that it can only be an auxiliary weapon due to the ammunition cap.

All of the new weapons have ammo caps. I don't know why they are keeping that trend going when there is no ammo to pick up.
Makes their use in maps where people are more durable quite useless.

It makes sense to think that is can only be used as an auxiliary weapon, and to a certain degree I agree as well
As stated in my previous post, I only use AR when I'm not playing seriously and the reason for that is because of the ammo cap
But, it's not as if I'm not trying when I play with it, and in the cases that I use it the AR is my main weapon

But again, as previously stated, once I run out of ammo my killing ability decreases sharply

So generally I'll run it with a melee that can quickly disrupt enemies (before I get shot down), like CS, Breaker, or Dagger

Well, I guess it could be your main weapon too, but I just prefer using another weapon without an ammo cap, so the situation you mentioned won't happen at all.
